Central Serous Retinopathy
Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSCR) is a medical condition of retina. It is a condition where the macula, the central portion of retina, is affected. The CSCR occurs when the pigmented layer of retina forms a small break. As a result the fluid present below the retina seeps through the break leading to a small detachment under the retina. You can compare this condition with water blisters of the skin where the skin layers separate due to the presence of the water in between. This condition is mostly seen in men under the age group of 25 years to 50 years. This disease can recur and may lead to moderate to permanent loss of central vision.

Stress is one of the major causes of this disease. There is detachment of fluid through the macula layers which leads to damage of the nerves of the retina in the long run. Sometimes the causes may also be idiopathic. The “type A personality” is also one of the important cause of central serous retinopathy. The other causes of CSR are Cushing’s syndrome and Helicobacter pylori

The doctor may also recommend steroid and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Laser treatment is required to seal the leak in case of severe vision loss. T |
