Entropion

Overview

Entropion, a condition in which lower eyelid turns inward due to which lashes start rubbing against the eye surface. As eyelid is counted as thinnest part of the skin, so it stretches easily. The condition can be congenital. The condition is rare in Europe and North America. Certain health conditions like chemical burn, infection with trachoma, etc increases the risk of Entropion.

Causes

Aging is considered as one of the main cause of the condition. Scarring inside the eyelid, weakening of the muscle around the eye, spasm, infection, etc. are other main causes of the condition.

Signs & Symptoms

The common symptoms are:

  • Sagging skin around the eye
  • Pain and redness in the eye
  • Sensitivity to wind and light
  • Decreased vision when cornea gets damaged
  • Excessive tearing

It is not necessary that if a person experiences all these symptoms, he is suffering from Entropion.
