Farsightedness is a diseased eye condition where the patient is unable to see nearby objects. This is a common eye condition and is mostly seen in patients above 40 years of age. In it the focal length of the object forms beyond the retina, hence the person needs to keep the object a bit far away from the eye to see the object clearly, by adjusting the focal length of the object to the retina. This medical condition is also called hyperopia. This medical condition may be severe or mild, severe in patients who can watch the objects by keeping them at great distance, and mild in those patients who can watch the object by moving the object only a little distance from the eyes.

The main cause of this type of faulty vision is that the visual image in such a case forms behind the retina, instead of directly falling on it. This failure of focusing of the vision may be due to weakness of the eye or else small size of eyeball. The farsightedness may be caused genetically. This disease is often present at birth, but due to flexible eye lens of the children the problem can’t be recognized during childhood. The problem resurfaces with aging process.

There is no known prevention of this disease.
